Why this Programme?
The future of the Nile Basin depends on a generation that is informed, empowered, and actively engaged. Our Young Professionals and Internship Programme is designed to equip young leaders with technical skills, field experience, and collaborative mindset needed to safeguard shared water resources. By placing youth at the centre of transboundary water management, climate adaptation and resilience building, gender inclusion, livelihoods, and community development, the program unlocks fresh perspectives, drives their innovation, and fosters a strong sense of ownership for the Basin’s shared future. The program deploys emerging talent across 10 member NDFs, ensuring both local relevance and basin-wide impact. Interns gain hands-on experience in citizen data collection, community engagement, and knowledge documentation, supported by Young Professionals who provide mentorship and technical guidance. With a strong emphasis on gender inclusion and a bias toward STEM disciplines, the program nurtures diverse talent capable of bridging science, policy, and community action.
Each intern is a multiplier, translating knowledge into community action, strengthening grassroots resilience, and contributing to a shared evidence base that informs regional decision-making. For NBD, this builds a pipeline of skilled professionals aligned with its mission; for development partners, it represents a strategic investment in long-term resilience, where every trained youth amplifies impact across communities and generations.
